Cardinal Mooney teacher sends out vocabulary list with racial slurs

CANFIELD, Ohio - A Cardinal Mooney teacher is receiving criticism from the school's parents after an inappropriate lesson including racial slurs used in a piece of literary work.
According to Cardinal Mooney President Nick Beyer, a teacher was giving a lesson on a derogatory word used in the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain when the lesson "went too far."
The lesson was dealing with the use of a racial slur in the novel, and putting the slur into historical context for the students. The teacher sent out a vocabulary list with several different forms of the racial slur, which caused concerns amongst people on Facebook.
President Beyer feels that the the lesson was "extremely misguided" and is "extremely disappointed at the content of the lesson."
Beyer is preparing a statement to send to parents and faculty addressing the issue and how the school plans to handle the situation.
