Meijer is now accepting SNAP benefits on Flashfood orders making the first retailer nationwide to accept SNAP benefits through the Flashfood app.

This is part of the retailer's ongoing effort to make fresh food more accessible, with the chain previously accepting SNAP benefits on fresh produce, as well offering free home delivery for SNAP customers for a limited time in November of 2022.

Flashfood is an app that allows customers to purchase surplus food nearing its "sell by" date such as meat, produce, deli and bakery products at a discount of up to 50% off.

From there, customers can pick them up from a designated refrigerator or storage rack at the front of the store.

The company partnered with Meijer, who initially launched Flashfood in 2019 as a sustainability program focused on minimizing food waste at a handful of its locations in Detroit. Now, the service is offered at all locations and is used by over 500,000 shoppers.

To date, Meijer customers have diverted nearly 5.6 million pounds of food nearing its sell by date at a discount, preventing these products from potentially entering landfills.

All you need to do to use your SNAP benefits on these orders is add your EBT card as a payment method in the Flashfood app.
