BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Authorities are revealing more about officers fatally shooting what they describe as a dangerous suspect.

Investigators say officers shot 50-year-old Fred H. Wild III of Girard as he allegedly drove a pickup truck toward them on the 2400 block of State Route 7 in Brookfield.

According to a joint news release, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Lordstown Village Police Department, Vienna Township Police Department, and Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office went to the address just after 1 a.m. in response to a 9-1-1 call reporting that a “dangerous suspect” was trespassing in a cabin on the private property.

Authorities say they recognized the man as Fred Wild, who was allegedly involved in prior fleeing and eluding incidents.

Wild jumped from the cabin window, say investigators, then got into a stolen pickup truck equipped with a snow low.

After failing to obey police orders, officers say Wild charged at them in the truck.

That’s when several officers fired on Wild, according to investigators.

A rescue squad was dispatched, but Wild had died.

No officers were injured.

State Route 7 north of state Route 82 will be closed for several hours while investigators process the scene.

The incident is currently being investigated by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
