Warren woman reports home break-in, attack by 'family friend'

WARREN, Ohio - A Warren woman is telling police she was assaulted by a man she described as a “family friend” who allegedly forced his way into her home early Monday.
According to a police report, the 22-year-old woman told officers that the suspect left her Clermont Avenue NE home at around 9 p.m. Sunday after having a few drinks and getting into an argument.
The woman told police she was awakened by a “bang” at around 2 a.m. the next morning and found that the back door of her home had been kicked in.
Hiding in the corner of the kitchen was the “friend” who had left a few hours earlier, according to the report.
The woman, who said the man grabbed her throat and threw her to the ground, told police she tried to run away, only to be forced to the floor again before being punched in the eye.
The police report says the woman reached for her cell phone, but the alleged attacker grabbed it, and threw it before he left the house.
The woman told police she didn’t call them until later that morning because she couldn’t find her phone until then.
In addition to taking the woman’s statement, police also took the suspect’s driver’s license that the woman said she found on the kitchen floor after the confrontation.
As of Wednesday, no charges had been filed.
