Austintown man arrested for 8th OVI offense after rear-end crash
An Austintown man has been arrested for an eighth OVI offense after State Troopers say his car rear-ended another vehicle on Saturday.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was called to investigate a two-vehicle crash in Austintown Township at the intersection of Raccoon Rd and Mahoning Avenue.
The patrol says the car driven by 59-year-old Albert Johannes struck the other vehicle which had been stopped at a red light.
Troopers say they saw an open container in the vehicle belonging to Johannes, who was described as lethargic and with a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage.
According to the patrol, Johannes nearly fell out of the vehicle face first and was unable to understand simple commands.
Johannes told troopers to place him under arrest. The patrol complied, arresting him for his eighth lifetime OVI and 2nd Felony OVI.
Johannes was unable to submit to a breath test. Due to the possible minor injuries from the crash Johannes was given a court summons.
