Gas prices continue downward trend in Northeast Ohio, Mahoning Valley

NORTHEAST OHIO - The average gasoline price in Northeast Ohio is 10 cents lower this week at $3.132 per gallon of regular gas, according to AAA East Central's Gas Price Report.
That price is one dollar less than the same time last year when the price was $4.131.
The lowest price locally is $3.116 per gallon in Niles followed by $3.117 in Youngstown. The price is even lower in nearby Ravenna ($2.998) and Alliance ($2.952).
The national gas price average also dropped by three cents to $3.43.
AAA East Central says better driving weather led to a surge in gas demand over the last week, but fears of a recession caused global oil prices to stay near $70 a barrel.
Gas demand increased from 8.59 million barrels per day to 8.96 million per day last week. Domestic gas stocks decreased by 6.4 million barrels to 229.6 million barrels.
AAA reports that lower oil prices have kept gas prices down despite the increase in demand.
