Transforming downtown Sharon is underway. Crews were seen working to demolish the old Huntington Bank building on the corner of Shenango and State street.

City manager, Bob Fiscus says after debris cleanup, they will begin constructing a green space for the public.

"It'll be opened up to the river front and you'll see that rapidly," Fiscus said. "We want to get you to Sharon. We want to keep you here and we want to see the development continue,"

The city manager expects the building to be flattened within the next few days. He hopes their plans for the space will attract more visitors.

After receiving a $345,000 grant from Pennsylvania's Local Share Account Program, Fiscus says those funds will help transform the area from a green space to a full scale park. Creating room for outdoor dining, exercising and an interactive water park for kids.

The city applied for additional federal grants for the project. They hope to get that approved by June.

Fiscus says they have seven projects planned in an effort to revitalize downtown Sharon.
