CANFIELD, Ohio - OSP's Canfield post is recognizing a Canfield mother and her son who were "saved by the belt" in a crash last week.

Troopers say Rakieda Cheatham and her five-year-old son, Carter were both injured in a crash in Boardman Township near Hitchcock Road, where another vehicle failed to yield and struck Cheatham's vehicle.

Luckily, injuries to both Cheatham and her son were minor, but troopers say had they not been wearing their seatbelts, those injuries could have been much worse.

Canfield OSP Post Commander, Lieutenant Eric Brown presented Cheatham and her son with their very own "Saved By the Belt" certificates, as well as a license plate bracket.

The "Saved By the Belt Club" is a joint effort by the Ohio Department of Public Safety and over 400 Ohio law enforcement agencies designed to recognize those who have benefitted from their decision to wear their seatbelts.
