MAHONING & SHENANGO VALLEYS - Making sure senior citizens, first responders and other people in need get a proper Easter meal was the goal for several organizations in the Mahoning and Shenango Valley Friday.

In Sharon, Pennsylvania, Operation: Easter Cheer was underway where local restaurants including Haitian Sensation, The Elks Club of Sharon, Quaker Steak & Lube and Smoky Martin's BBQ cooked up more than 400 meals which were then delivered to senior citizens and first responders.

"I think that it's a fantastic thing that we do, everybody is getting together to do this," Joseph Alternor, Owner of Haitian Sensation said.

"These are meals for people in need, people who are shut-ins, who maybe can't get out for the holiday, we just want to go out and bless them with a hot meal," Sara McCauley, a local volunteer said.

"It's not just about delivering meals to people, it's about letting people know they are not alone, because the holidays make it challenging," said Sherris Moreira, owner of The Small Town Storytelling writing company.

A similiar event took place at the Austintown Senior Center where Saving Our Seniors of the Mahoning Valley hosted its 2nd annual Easter meal delivery.

"We have 280 meals that we'll be delivering today, Cheryl Lloyd, the Community Relations and Marketing Manager with Easter Seals said. "The meal consists of ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, everyone gets a chocolate bunny."

All the food was donated, packed up and then collected by volunteer drivers so they could hand deliver a nice home cooked meal.

"As a group, we all came together and thought, what can we do to make a difference in our community and a lot of seniors right now are homebound, they can't get out and get meals so we wanted to make a difference in all of our seniors' lives," Lloyd said.

On top of the food, handmade cards, made by local kids were also delivered.
