Police: Intoxicated man fires gun after security removes him from bar

YOUNGSTOWN - Officers in Youngstown responded to shots fired outside a Midlothian Blvd. bar early Saturday morning.
Police say the incident started when 43-year-old Sean St. Thomas attempted to fight with another patron, and was then escorted out of the bar by security.
After being removed from the bar, police say St. Thomas walked across the street to Shirley Road and knelt down, as if he was tying his shoes. The security guard watched him from the other side of the road. When St. Thomas stood up, the security guard tells police he heard a gunshot.
The report says St. Thomas then continued down Shirley, firing 3 to 4 more shots as he walked.
Moments later, a pair of officers located St. Thomas standing in the middle of Shirley. Officers ordered him to put his hands above his head. The officers say St. Thomas was swaying back and forth, and had his body angled so officers weren't able to see his left arm or hand.
Since St. Thomas did not comply, and officers were unable to see if he was holding a gun in his left hand, the officers held him at gunpoint. St. Thomas then dropped a pistol near his feet.
Police then took St. Thomas into custody. The police report notes that St. Thomas's eyes were red and glossy, and he was muttering incoherently.
While searching St. Thomas, officers found a small bag of what they believe to be fentanyl in his pocket.
Security footage later confirmed to officers that shots were fired.
St. Thomas was booked into the Mahoning County Jail on charges of felonious assault, discharging a firearm within city limits, using weapons while intoxicated, and drug possession. He is set to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
