WARREN, Ohio - A duplex in Warren caught fire Thursday evening, forcing people and their pets to escape the blaze.

The fire happened at a multi-family building on Porter Street around 6:45 p.m.

Michael Vaughn, a neighbor who helped the people and pets get out of the home, told 21 News a gas grill caught a corner of the building on fire.

Officials on scene say about a dozen dogs lived in the duplex. Crews were able to get all the dogs out of the building but a few cats are unaccounted for at this time.

Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control but had to break through some parts of the roof.

The building's residents are expected to be displaced for a short time as fire officials assess the damage.

No one was injured.
