Grove City Library asking for community support to help keep doors open

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Grove City Library is under threat of closing.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic, the library has seen a decrease in community donations. Since 60 percent of the library's budget come from community donations, the library is struggling to stay open.
According to Grove City Library Director Amy Gallagher, because the library was closed during the onset of the pandemic, combined with the economic issues that followed, the library has seen a series decrease in donations.
The largest part of the library's budget is their salary, and due to the financial issues, Gallagher says they are operating on a skeleton staff. The library will be closing on Saturdays to help cut expenses.
Lately, Gallagher says donations have increased slightly, some big and some small. But, she says the library needs a steady stream of community donations to get to a healthy budget.
"I don't think people realize how much we rely on the community for our budget," said Gallagher.
The library is unable to use tax levies to generate revenue, and have been reaching out and applying for different grants for funding, but are mainly focusing on community fundraisers to help raise money.
Currently, the library is holding a quilt raffle until May, 31.
The library will be hosting a Fandom Fest at the Grove City Masonic Lodge on May 13, that will include a basket raffle and 50/50 raffle.
On May 18, Primanti Brothers in Grove City will be donating 20 percent of its sales from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. to the library.
Grove City Nutrition will also be holding a fundraiser on June 2, and the library will be holding a bake sale on June 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Patrons can also purchase orders for Marianne's Sub and Pizza through the library from July 17 through August 4, and orders can be picked up on August 12.
A summer craft and vendor show will take place at Grove City Memorial Park from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., and will include a basket raffle and 50/50 raffle.
The annual Grove City Library book sale will take place September 9, at Grove City Memorial Park, patrons will be able to fill a bag with books for $10.00.
Proceeds from all the fundraisers will go to keeping the library open and operating.
