Sharon robotics team wins Engineering Excellence award at FIRST World Championship

SHARON, Pa. - The Sharon Tigers robotics team is taking home a prestigious award from its visit to Houston, Texas for the FIRST World Championship.
The team consisting of nine students in 5th through 8th grade will be taking home the Engineering Excellence award, which celebrates a team with an efficiently-designed robot and innovative project solution that effectively addresses the season challenge.
This year, the Tigers designed, built and programmed an EV3 LEGO Mindstorm Robot that autonomously completed tasks on a playing field for two and a half minutes.
Additionally, the team created an innovative project solution called the "Super Power Pack," a battery inverter intended for a commercial setting. The pack charges during off-peak hours to provide cheaper energy during peak hours.
The team also applied for and received a professional patent for the Super Power Pack.
The Tigers will celebrate their successful season with an open house featuring all of the Sharon robotics teams on Friday, April 28 starting at 6:00 p.m. in the gymnasium of Case Avenue Elementary School.
