Leetonia man sentenced to 3 years prison in animal abuse case

A 63-year-old Leetonia man who had asked for probation in his animal and drug abuse case is headed to prison for three years after being sentenced in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court Friday.
John Arsuffi, who lives on Route 558, pleaded guilty in March and was sentenced on nine counts of cruelty to companion animals, cultivation of marijuana, and possession of drugs in Judge Megan Bickerton's courtroom.
The judge also advised Arsuffi that he may be subject to two years of post-release control by the parole board upon his release from prison.
The case had been delayed after a house explosion burned Arsuffi in 2021.
Arsuffi was arrested in March 2021 after multiple pets on his property died after the Columbiana County dog warden was notified.
