Lit Youngstown is currently seeking out poets who are inspired by art and movies for upcoming collaborations with the YWCA and the Youngstown Concert Band.

The "YWCA Women Artists: A Celebration!" annual juried art exhibition showcases works by local and regional artists. Interested poets will receive an electronic image of a paining, photograph, ceramic work or artwork of other media accepted into the show.

From there, the poets will be tasked with writing a poem responding to that artwork. Those poems will then be read at the YWCA on Thursday, June 29 at 6:00 p.m.

Additionally, the Youngstown Area Community Concert band will be putting on its annual concert series with a celebration of film scores by composer John Williams, best known for movies like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, E.T. and Superman.

Lit Youngstown is seeking poets to write poems inspired by these films or any others with scores by John Williams. The poem could be written in the voice of a character, depict a movie memory or describe a scene from a movie.

These poems will be read during the community band's annual summer concert at Austintown Township Park on Tuesday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m.

Participation is free and both reading events are free and open for the public to attend. Those interested in registering can click here to do so.
