200 transportation projects in Mahoning and Trumbull Counties to be completed by 2050

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Eastgate Regional Council of Governments is planning for the future. The organization released its draft for what transportation will look like in Mahoning and Trumbull counties in the year 2050.
The draft plan includes nearly 200 projects that are projected to cost more than $402,000,000.
The projects include widening roads, resurfacing streets, improving traffic signals, replacing bridges, adding sidewalks and more.
“The key is if a community wants to receive federal funding for a project it has to be in this plan. That's not saying that it has to be in the plan at this moment. The plan can be amended down the road to include things that come up,” Justin Mondok, Eastgate Regional Council of Government Director of Planning and Development said. “We can't look into a magic looking glass and know the future for sure but this is our one chance every five years to take a stab at what the next 20 years will look like.”
Anyone can look at the draft and submit a comment on it until Friday, May 19. The link to the submission form can be found here.
Eastgate Regional Council of Governments will also hold a public comment meeting on Thursday, May 4 from 3 - 6p.m. at its office at 100 East Federal Street, Suite 1000 if people have questions that need to be addressed in-person.
