Youngstown native John DeFilippo is bringing his undefeated New Orleans Breakers to Canton this weekend for a USFL game against New Jersey.

The one time offensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns (2015), DeFilippo spent 16 seasons in the NFL as an assistant coach.

He won a Super Bowl with Philadelphia in 2016 and has been an assistant with the Vikings, Bears & Jaguars.

Now in his first season as a head coach with New Orleans, the 45 year old is enjoying the ride.

"I wanted to be a head coach and I wanted to challenge myself, " said DeFilippo to 21 Sports.  "I jumped at this opportunity and I'm having a lot of fun."

The Breakers are 3-0 and play the Generals at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.

"I've never been to the Hall of Fame," said the chucking coach adding he can't wait to go.

DeFilippo is part of a long list of Youngstown area connections at all levels of football.

"The really love their football in Youngstown and there's been a lot of players and coaches who've come out of Youngstown, Ohio. There's a lot of well known names on that list and to be part of it is pretty cool," continued DeFilippo.

He has relatives in the Akron area who'll go to Sunday's game in Canton.

"It gives you goosebumps playing in that stadium," said DeFilippo adding it going to be a unique feeling for his team.

The Breakers & New Jersey play at 3:00pm on 21 WFMJ.
