Two of the teens charged in the murder of 14-year-old Landon Lockhart are being held in the Mahoning County Jail.

Anjuan Whitfield and Anthony Wilkins, both 17 years old, were booked into the jail Friday and their cases have been bound over to Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.

Both teens appeared in Mahoning County Juvenile Court last weekend in front of Judge Theresa Dellick to determine if there is enough evidence to bind the case over for trial in adult court.

A witness at last weekend's hearing, who is also a suspect in the case, claimed he, Wilkins, Whitfield and Lockhart drove to a home on Youngstown's east side.

He told the court that he remained in the car while his friends and Lockhart went inside. Minutes later he heard shots fired, then two of his friends came back to the car without Lockhart.

The witness also testified that when his friends returned to the car both had guns in their hands.

Background

The Lockhart case dates back to November 2021 when the 14-year-old went missing.

After numerous attempts to locate the teen, YPD detectives found his body in a wooded area off North Truesdale Avenue on the city's east side during the morning hours of January 13, 2022.

Six and a half months after Lockhart's body was found, officials arrested the first two suspects. Anjuan Whitfield and Anthony Wilkins were arrested on June 29, 2022, and were charged with aggravated murder with a firearm specification.

Both teens had a criminal record at the time of their arrests. Wilkins had felony vandalism and robbery charges and a misdemeanor assault. Whitfield also had vandalism and robbery charges as well as felonious assault and assault charges.

A third suspect, 17-year-old Elijah Carlisle, was arrested on January 13, 2023.
