YOUNGSTOWN -
Sixteen hundred graduates walked across a stage at YSU's Stambaugh Stadium to receive their degrees.
YSU graduates we talked with are optimistic even in light of the debt crisis our country faces, and some companies have announced layoff's of a significant number of employees.
Thousands of parents, family, and friends watched as 1,600 students walked across the stage at YSU's Stambaugh Stadium to receive their degrees and advanced degrees.
Three graduates who received their MSW, Master of Social Work, believe unlike the Tech Industry facing layoffs, the market is perfect for professionals in certain fields.
Annie, Katheryn, Fionulla tell WFMJ News graduating with a MSW, Master of Social Work, is perfect for them because the market really needs helpers.
Tiffany Rose Dorsey from Warren earned her MA, Masters in Mental Health Addiction Counseling tells us there is a need for therapists everywhere.
"There is a crisis. People are struggling out there not being able to function on a day to day, addiction is on the rise, we have an opioid epidemic so again, I feel that my degree is going go come in and help save lives," Tiffany Rose Dorsey said.
Courtney Harper received a second masters in education and principalship, MSEd YSU.
She encourages other full time working moms raising children to dream big and work towards advancing their carers.
"There's jobs that are available. We are still needing more teachers, administrators, substitute teachers. We need those in our school districts," Harper said.
Gerald Pruitt who grew up in Ravenna but now lives in Florida, earned his Master of Business Administration, MBA, degree on line, . Much of his classwork was done while he was overseas.
"You can do it anywhere in the world. I was actually studying classes in Ukraine while handing out medical supplies, so you can do it anywhere, and your never too old," Pruitt added.
He hopes to work in leadership for a non profit and continue helping others. The graduates here say it's never too late, and believe although the debt limit looms, the sky's the limit for them, in their chosen careers.
