Capitol riot trial set Tuesday for Mercer County woman

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A Mercer County woman tweeted she was in the "belly of the beast" as she awaits Tuesday's trial for her alleged part in the January 6th incursion at the US Capitol.
Rachel Powell posted on her Twitter Monday night that she and family members are in Alexandria, Virginia where she has been preparing for her trial before U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth in Washington at 10 a.m.
The Sandy Lake mother of eight also quipped on Twitter that she can't go to jail because there'll be no one to give her daughter a dollar for a tooth she just lost.
Government attorneys say the 43-year-old carried an ice axe and a "large" wooden pole into the Capitol while Vice President Pence was in the building to take part in the process of certifying the results of the previous November's election.
Since Judge Lamberth is hearing Powell's case, it is expected to proceed quickly since there will be no need for jury selection.
Powell, the so-called "pink hat lady" and "bullhorn lady" was charged after authorities say videos showed her in the crowd of people storming the Capitol in support of Donald Trump's false claims of election fraud.
An affidavit says Powell was seen using the bullhorn to give instructions about the layout of the Capitol building and instructing others on how to "take this building."
Powell faces nine charges that include civil disorder, obstruction, destruction of US property, entering a restricted building or property with a dangerous weapon, and disorderly conduct.
In another tweet, Powell posted; "My judge has been around for a long time and has the capability of seeing through buls**t and doing what's right."
