YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Mahoning County Children Services Board has announced a new Interim Director during a Tuesday board meeting.

The Board named Dr. Joseph Mosca as the new interim director. Dr. Mosca will assume this position on June 1, serving in a temporary part-time capacity for up to 90 days until a permanent director is selected and finalized.

This comes after current director, Randy Muth announced his departure from the agency. Previously, Muth told 21 News that he was in talks with the Lucas County Children Services Board about accepting a position there.

According to a press release, Muth has accepted this position. His final day with the Mahoning County agency is June 8.

Following Dr. Mosca's start as Interim Director, the Board will continue its search for a permanent Executive Director, narrowing their search down to four candidates.

Mahoning County Children Services Board Chairman, Daniel Wakefield has expressed his gratitude to Dr. Mosca for accepting this postion, noting his past experience with the Board.

"In addition to Dr. Mosca's wealth of experience and expertise pertaining to social work and administration, his previous service on the Children Services Board makes him an ideal Interim Director," Wakefield said.

Dr. Mosca had served on the Board from 2014 to 2021, becoming Board Chair in 2018.

He also served as Associate Dean of the YSU Bitonte College of Health and Human Services in 2007 and took on the role of Dean in 2009, eventually being appointed to Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs before retiring in 2019.

"I am honored to serve as the Agency's Interim Director. I feel very strongly about the valuable and vital work this agency does to protect children, help strengthen and preserve vulnerable and at-risk families in our community," Dr. Mosca said.
