Over 20 chickens have been rescued in Hubbard after falling out of a truck late Friday night.

According to a Facebook post from Healthy Hearts and Paws President and Founder, Jason Cooke, approximately 22 crates of chickens fell out of the truck and were found running loose on Route 62 near King Collision in Hubbard.

Cooke said in a live video posted Saturday morning that the driver of the truck never stopped for the chickens.

According to Cooke's video, it took him along with Hubbard Police and bystanders around three hours to rescue all the chickens and clean up the mess. The chickens have since been taken to Healthy Hearts & Paws.

In his video, Cooke says there were approximately 10 chickens per crate, so he estimates over 200 chickens total were running loose in the street that night. Cooke also says some of these chickens are now laying eggs.

According to Cooke's video, only one of these chickens died as a result of falling from the truck.

In an updated video, Cooke says bird experts examined the chickens and determined they were not well cared for stating that they were underfed, underweight and a few even had to be euthanized.

The chickens will not be sent to any farms or individuals, but Cooke is in touch with Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary.

Cooke says since Healthy Hearts and Paws does not usually rescue chickens, he's unsure of what he's going to do with these chickens at this time, but they will not be sent to any farms or individuals. Cooke says he's in touch with Happy Trails Animal Sanctuary.

At this point, it is unclear who the driver of the truck was, if they will be facing any charges or why the chickens were on the truck.
