Twenty-one cats, including five deceased felines, have been removed from a home described as as deplorable on Osborn Avenue in Youngstown.
Animal Charity's Jane MacMurchy told 21 News that the house has been red-tagged, meaning it is unfit to be lived in, and the home is filthy and has feces throughout.
According to MacMurchy, the cats are severely dehydrated, have respiratory infections and wounds.
Humane officers and Youngstown Community Police are assisting with the multiple-day rescue, which began on Tuesday, trying to get additional cats and kittens from the house.
MacMurchy was bitten by one of the cats on Wednesday and had to receive treatment at a local hospital. The cat that bit her was captured.
Charges are pending for the homeowner.
According to the Facebook post, this is the third hoarding house their agents have visited in the Valley in the last ten days. MacMurchy said donated supplies are needed, including blankets, lamb dry dog food, cat and kitten food and clumping litter. Donated items can be shipped to or dropped off to 4140 Market Street, Boardman.
