Forget the balloons, streamers, and painted cars, for students and staff in the Springfield Local School District, the end of the academic year means driving the family tractor to school.

And so it was early Friday as the more than 20-year tradition of Tractor Day continued.

Tractors of all sizes paraded into the district’s parking lot at 7 a.m., including superintendent, Tom Yazvac and his grandson Tommy who has led the parade every year.

This was Superintendent Yazvac’s last year in the parade since he is retiring in September.

Eighth Grade teacher Sandi Kohler, whose family owns a farm in New Middletown, drove the family tractor to class.

The parade down Route 170 also included other large farm equipment and personal tractors.

And I can take you for a ride on my big green tractor. We can make it go slow or make it go faster. Down through the woods and out to the pasture. ‘Long as I’m with you it really doesn’t matter.”
