The 910th Airlift Wing at the Youngstown Air Reserve Station hosted their 'Airman for a Day' program for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

The air reserve welcomed 11 year-old Joseph Skaleris, a patient at Akron Children's Hospital Beeghly Campus in Boardman.

Skaleris was able to experience a full day of the military lifestyle at the Youngstown Air Reserve. He was commissioned as an honorary Air Reserve 2nd Lieutenant and recognized as the wing's newest 'Airman for a Day' during a ceremony.

Skaleris also was able to taxi aboard a C-130H Hercules cargo aircraft, fire a water cannon abroad a fire department crash rescue truck, ride in a security forces vehicle, and try new aircrew life support equipment.

For more than two decades, the 'Airman for a Day' program, formerly known as 'Pilot for a Day,' has hosted more than 65 Akron's Children's Hospital patients with chronic or life-threatening illnesses.
