Youngstown ponders traffic signal upgrade on Market Street, Indianola Ave.

YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown City Council is considering a project to make it easier to travel along two major routes through the city’s Southside.
Included on Wednesday’s agenda is an item to hire a consultant to design plans to upgrade the traffic lights along Market Street and Indianola Avenue.
The project would include removing unnecessary signals and coordinating the remaining traffic lights, as well as installing new pedestrian push buttons and signals.
In addition, new, ADA-compliant curb ramps would be installed.
The project includes 14 Market Street signals between Woodland Avenue and Midlothian Boulevard, where it’s estimated that more than 13,000 cars and trucks travel each day.
Four signals would be reviewed on Indianola between Market Street and Glenwood where according to state traffic counts, 3,700 vehicles travel daily.
The city’s share of the cost would be $900,000 or less.
