1998: A 19-month-old boy who was kidnapped from his home in Midwest City, Okla., is found safe three days later at a W. Park Avenue home in Hubbard home. A 39-year-old Hubbard woman was arrested when the child was recovered, and an Oklahoma couple was arrested in Oklahoma. 
 
An explosion in the oven area of the paint shop at the Lordstown General Motors plant kills Dennis Shaffer, 52, of Akron.
A weekend telethon broadcast by WFMJ-TV as part of the Children's Miracle Network raises $550,000 for Tod Babies and Children's Hospital. 
 
1983: Ajax Magnethermic Corp., which has had its worldwide headquarters in Warren since 1963, announces the immediate closing of its Warren plant, which employed 300.
 
Damage has been estimated at $250,000 from a fire that damaged the home of former U.S. District Judge George Jones at 1351 Youngstown country club Drive in Liberty Township. 
 
Robert L. Dawson, 57, a community leader who became the highest-ranking African American to hold Warren municipal office, died of a heart ailment. He was the safety service director under Mayor Arthur Richards. 
 
1973: Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana County farmers face crop disasters. They were unable to harvest some crops last fall because of wet weather and can't get into the fields to plant anew because of mud. 
 
A tunnel is opened, providing access from W. Federal Street to old Division Street and the Brier Hill Works of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. 
 
The Rev. Donald Bank, a Youngstown Diocesan priest on loan to work with the United Farm Workers Union, is reported injured in an attack at a Coachella, Calif., restaurant. Father Banks said he was struck by a Teamster who had been working as a security guard at a farm being picketed by farm workers. 
 
1948: More than 20,000 people lined Federal Street in downtown Youngstown for the annual Memorial Day parade. 
 
The thrill of the circus draws 300 early birds to the West Avenue train yards to watch the Cole Bros. circus train of 50 brightly painted coaches arrive and unload.
