Sharon food warehouse to open community garden, Saturday

The Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County (CFWMC) is opening its community garden, Saturday, June 17.
The second annual event will offer hot dogs courtesy of Shenango Valley Meats, U'll Scream Gelato, story time with the Shenango Valley Community Library and more.
Children in attendance will also be given a free book from the Sharon Kiwanis Club.
The CFWMC adopted this community garden lot in 2021 through the Lots to Love Program, a partnership between the Sharon and Community Action Partnership of Mercer County. The garden features eight separate beds containing different fruits and vegetables including peppers, beets, red raspberries, cucumbers, tomatoes and spinach to name a few.
Plants were donated from local greenhouses, Joe's Greenhouse and DJ's Greenhouse.
"We are happy to be able to provide additional access to fresh fruits and vegetables by way of the community garden," said Rebecca Page, executive director of CFWMC. "With the prices of food at a 40-year high, we anticipate the garden to be fully utilized by our neighbors in Sharon."
