Former Mahoning County Sheriff's Deputy accused of killing father deemed competent for trial

A former Mahoning County Sheriff's Deputy who is accused of killing his father has been deemed competent to stand trial.
According to employees of Judge Anthony D'Apolito's court, 49-year-old Michael Bruno Jr.'s attorney filed for sanity and he's now being assessed as to whether or not he was sane at the time of the incident.
The incident occurred back in September of 2022 when Bruno allegedly shot and killed his father with a handgun in the bedroom of his Lealand Avenue home. He is charged with Aggravated Murder and Domestic Violence.
Police say Bruno confessed to the murder, but argued that he had COVID-19 at the time and told police he believes that influenced his actions.
Bruno worked for the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department between 2000 and 2006.
