FARRELL, Pa. - There will be an increased police presence at the City of Farrell’s Juneteenth celebration because of three gun related incidents that all happened within the span of 10 days.

The first incident happened on Monday, June 5th in Farrell on Park Avenue and Union Street when a shootout happened between several kids in two separate cars.

The second incident happened on Saturday, June 10 in New Castle. According to police, around 1a.m., shots broke out at a graduation party - killing one and seriously injuring two others.

The third incident happened less than 24-hours after the second back in Farrell. On Sunday June 11, Farrell police got a tip and responded to the T & T bar at the corner of Roemer Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue. There,  police found several people out front in a car wearing masks. Two juveniles were arrested - both were carrying guns. At least two others got away - and one of them dropped a gun in the road while running away.

Police wouldn’t say if all three incidents are connected - but they are telling 21 News that the car in Sunday's arrest may be connected to the car in the June 5 shootout because it had bullet holes in the side of it. However, they don’t know if the people inside the car from the arrest were involved in the shootout.

This all prompted the city to issue a warning to people to be extra aware of their surroundings when going out to any weekend events - including the Juneteenth celebration scheduled for Friday and Saturday in Farrell.

“I don’t think our citizens are in any more danger than they would be at any other time,” Ben Prescott, Farrell city manager said. “I'm just asking everyone to be more vigilant. If you see something, say something.”

Prescott said the city has never had any trouble with violence during their festivals - so they’ve never had to issue a warning like this before - and this was only issued because the incidents happen so close in time to each other.

If anyone does see something suspicious they are encouraged to call 911 or the Farrell Police Department’s non-emergency number at 724-662-6110.
