Driver charged with OVI after dozens lose power after car strikes pole in Austintown
Electricity has been restored after a power line was been knocked down on S. Wickliffe Circle in Austintown after being reportedly struck by a vehicle.
One person was in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
Crews were called to the scene for reports of a car colliding with a home. The down power line was reported when the Austintown Fire Department arrived on the scene.
According to a police report from Austintown PD, the driver, identified as 49-year-old Nicholas Cavucci appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, but officers could not conduct field sobriety tests at the scene due to his injuries.
Police say Cavucci admitted to drinking when officers asked and officers found a bottle of Vodka inside his vehicle.
Cavucci was charged with OVI, and court records show that he has a history of these charges with offenses dating back to 1996 and multiple offenses in 2021 alone.
Very little damage was done to the home.
Ohio Edison was called to respond at around 7:00 pm Monday. Their outage tracker map reports that a crew restored electricity to an estimated 21-100 people overnight.
