LORDSTOWN, Ohio - Just weeks after voters approved a half percent income tax levy, Lordstown Council promoted seven part-time firefighters to full-time status.

The unanimous vote came at Tuesday night’s council meeting and become effective on July 1.  In addition, two more members will become full-time on August 1.

Voters in the village of Lordstown approved the additional income tax levy in May which will also be used to maintain fire department equipment and ambulance service for the residents.

The additional income levy is expected to bring somewhere between $1 million to $1.5 million to the village.

The funds will also allow the village to maintain the ambulance service at a level of service that residents expect.
