Youngstown man charged: Cops say he kicked cruiser, kissed corrections officer

BROOKFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - What started as an arrest for allegedly stealing a bag of ice, ended with Brookfield Police filing several charges against a Youngstown man they say kicked a cruiser and kissed a correction officer.
Township Police say they arrested 36-year-old Catlin Sansone on Tuesday after seeing him take a bag of ice from a freezer outside a closed drive-thru store on South Irvine Avenue.
Police say they also found a cold six-pack of beer in his backpack, which was allegedly stolen from another convenience store, according to an employee there.
Once handcuffed and placed in a cruiser, police say he repeatedly smashed his head against a partition and kicked the inside of the car.
According to a police report, Sansone managed to get his handcuffs from behind his back and called 9-1-1 using a phone he had concealed in his coat.
The officer said Sansone told the dispatcher that he had been kidnapped by police and demanded to speak with the Sharon Police Chief.
When the officer tried to grab the phone, Sansone allegedly spit at the officer and threatened to head-butt him.
After getting help from a Vienna Township Officer, restraints were placed on Sanson’s ankles. The officer says he couldn’t locate Sansone’s cell phone due to several layers of clothing he was wearing and what the officer described as Sansone’s “combative behavior”.
As the cruiser continued traveling toward the county jail, the officer said Sanson again butted his head against the cruiser partition and kicked the rear window.
Once at the jail, police say Sanson resisted being handcuffed and kissed one of the corrections officers on his cheek just as he was being placed in a cell.
It didn’t end there, according to the police.
Sansone was supposed to be arraigned via video from the jail on Tuesday, but according to Eastern District Court records, he was disruptive and refused to appear.
His arraignment has been rescheduled for Friday on charges of disrupting public services, criminal trespass, obstructing official business, menacing, criminal damaging, and two counts of theft.
