Mercy Health no longer accepting Anthem Ohio Medicaid patients

Ohio - Mercy Health providers and facilities will no longer provide care for patients with Anthem Ohio Managed Medicaid insurance.
Mercy Health posted to their website that starting July 1, patients with Anthem Managed Medicaid insurance can no longer see Mercy Health providers or schedule appointments without an approved Continuity of Care form from Anthem.
All patients will continue to have access to all Mercy Health hospitals in cases of emergency treatment, regardless of the network status with Anthem.
This decision comes after months of negotiations between Elevance Health, parent company of Anthem Ohio, and Mercy Health on managing Medicaid plans.
According to Mercy Health, their reimbursement rates from Elevance Health have not kept pace with rising costs of labor, supplies and medications undermining their ability to provide care now and into the future.
A few weeks ago, Mercy Health accused Anthem of taking its most recent offer off the table and walking away from talks. Anthem responded, saying Mercy is "terminating its contract to serve a vulnerable population to try to force higher costs."
This decision means around 50,000 Medicaid patients will not be able to get care through Mercy, which will impact nearly 9,000 patients here in the Valley.
