NEWTON FALLS, Ohio -
In Newton Falls things got so out of control, that Sheriff's Deputies were called to Wednesday's council meeting.
"Go call the sheriff. Get out," Mayor Ken Kline exclaimed.
In Newton Falls the council meeting descended into chaos.
Councilman John Baryak became upset and wanted Mayor Ken Kline to stop folks in the audience from commenting and clapping.
But Mayor Kline wanted the meeting to continue.
When Councilman Baryak made a motion to overrule the Mayor, Kline became upset and ordered him out. Not once but a few times.
"Mr Baryak shut your mouth. Get out!" Mayor Kline said.
"Ohhhhh," Councilman John Baryak said to show he is not afraid of the mayor.
During the meeting Mayor Kline hit the gavel dozens of times saying he controls the meeting and he as chairman does not recognize Baryak so he didn't have the floor to make that motion.
When Councilman Gideon Fetterolf wanted to take a vote on Baryak's motion, Kline ordered Fetterolf out.
"I'm making a motion," Baryak answered.
"Get out go. I don't need a second. Get out! Get out! Get out!," Mayor Kline said.
Councilman Baryak says a small group in the audience tries to bully him when he's speaking. And he has difficulty hearing due to his two hearing aides.
"I did nothing wrong. I asked the mayor three times if he could please take control of the meeting and have decorum. We're trying to conduct business," Baryak explained.
Mayor Kline explains folks in the audience deserve some grace and respect, not belittled.
"I sat up here and listened to councilman making fun of, making noises, at the people in the seats and wondering why people get upset with them. So at some point in time I gave warning and said you're going to be thrown out of here," Mayor Kline explained.
The city attorney pointed out that it is legal for council to make a motion to override the chairman or Mayor.
Section 121.03 states,(1) Council may at any time by 2/3 majority vote, renew, amend, modify, or suspend these rules or establish such other rule(s) as it may deem necessary to conduct its business.
(2) A decision of the Chair may be overturned by a majority vote of Council.
Council members voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting without any legislation being considered.
After that happened opposing sides defending either the mayor or councilman began a screaming match before leaving.
By the time Trumbull Sheriff's Deputies showed up, the rules and yelling were over with no violence.
One woman who says this was her first meeting was appalled and wants elected officials to work together for residents in Newton Falls.
