A brand-new restaurant is set to open up in Downtown Youngstown in the coming months following the closure of two well-known bars and restaurants in the area.
Penguin Entertainment Group has just announced the acquisition of the former O'Donold's Irish Pub & Grill at 122 West Federal Street following the bar's closure in March of 2023.
The company has began a comprehensive remodeling effort beginning with a full architectural redesign that will unfold in carefully-planned phases over the next year.
The first phase will be a college-themed sports bar called "Guins," which will celebrate the essence of Youngstown State University and its community of students.
The establishment is aiming to not only attract new customers, but also those who were loyal patrons to O'Donold's, as well as The Lemon Grove, which was previously located on the property before relocating near the Knox Building.
Guins is set to open in the fall coinciding with YSU students returning to campus for the fall 2023 semester. Leading up to the grand opening, the restaurant will host a series of events to build up anticipation.
These events include an intimate friends and family night, a special influencer night and several other private events. The official opening date will be announced at a later time.
Over the next year, three more concepts will be unveiled for this remodeling effort.
