YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown City Council is holding a special summertime meeting on Monday to consider paying $1,100,000 to replace a fire escape at City Hall that has skyrocketed from the original estimate of $47,555.

An item on Monday's council agenda includes the waiving of formal bidding, and spending not more than $1,100,000 to Murphy Contracting and MS Consultants for emergency repairs to the fire escape as quickly as possible.

City officials began limiting the number of people allowed into City Hall in early March when a maintenance review discovered structural problems with the fire escape.

As a result, the City Council has been moving its meetings elsewhere until repairs are completed.

Youngstown City Council has moved its Wednesday meeting from council chambers after issues with city hall's fire escapes were revealed.

The ordinance states that the money for the project is available in the city's General Fund.
