YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The former treasurer of a Youngstown construction company was sentenced in reference to a $2 million federal fraud probe on Thursday.

According to Northern Ohio District Court records, former B&B Construction treasurer, Samuel DeCaria was sentenced to a concurrent sentence of six months in prison followed by one year of supervised release, six months of which to be served under house arrest.

In October of 2022, DeCaria pled guilty to charges of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

In July of 2017, state agents seized three folders of evidence related to B&B Construction during a search of Attorney Steven Garea's Canfield office. Evidence seized include a paper showing a payment breakdown and correspondence alleging fraud committed against the company including earning statements and construction contracts.

According to a bill of information, between March of 2006 and September of 2016, DeCaria, along with former B&B president, Philip Beshara conspired to defraud the company by diverting $1.6 million from the company bank account into Beshara's personal account.

Additionally, the two had subcontractors to submit inflated invoices for work they had performed for the company. $350,000 of which was kicked back to Beshara.

Investigators say DeCaria was aware of the fraudulent transactions and allowed them to continue.

Beshara was sentenced for his role in this case on Wednesday, July 12.
