A Warren man is in custody after leading police on a high-speed car chase around a busy area of Warren.

Andre Perry, 26, has been arrested and charged with failure to comply and tampering with evidence after threatening his aunt with a gun and attempting to escape via car.

Officers arrived on the 100 block of Idyllwild NE on Thursday and found Perry in a white Subaru Outback. After knocking on the car's door window, Perry, who leaning the chair back, popped up and reached under the seat of the car. The officer backed away from the door, in fear Perry was reaching for his gun.

According to police reports, Perry then sped away from the officers, who pursued them. The chase, which reached up to 70 miles per hour,  spanned the block, beginning on Idywild NE, going north on Fremont, west on Maryland Street NE, south on North Park Avenue, east on Albert Street NE and back to where the chase began on Idywild NE.

Perry exited the car, walked up to his girlfriend, and hugged her, ignoring the officer's commands for him to get down. Eventually, officers arrested him and searched his vehicle, according to reports.

During the search, the officers found small amounts of Marijuana but no gun. A K-9 unit searched the route of the car chase and found a Sig Sauer P320 9mm on the curb in front of a house in the 100 block of Maryland Street.
