MILTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Longtime Milton Township fire chief Harold Maynard put in his retirement notice Tuesday after being placed on paid administrative leave for policy violations back in June.

Maynard was placed on leave earlier this month after current and former firefighters and EMT personnel accused him of reckless behavior and claims of gender discrimination.

Firefighter and EMT Julianne D'Amico alleged Maynard "sabotaged" her training, while another letter claimed Maynard didn't want to de-contaminate gear used during the East Palestine train derailment.

Milton Township Trustees read from Maynard's retirement letter at Tuesday's trustee meeting, in which he acknowledged the accusations made against him.

"With the current environment and allegations made towards my ability to serve on the department and having no ability to respond to these allegations, it is in the best interest of myself and my family to retire from the department," Maynard wrote in the retirement notice.

The former chief will be taken off paid leave and his retirement will be effective immediately.
