AUSTINTOWN, Ohio - Austintown trustees unveiled a new seal for the township at Monday's trustee meeting.

The seal was created by artist Ray Simon, a Youngstown native.

Within the seal are five different features, each with a nod to a part of Austintown.

The center features a covered wagon being driven by John McCollum, who was Austintown's first settler in 1794.

On each side of the seal are two buildings. The one on the left side is the Austin Log Cabin, which was built in the 1800s. The right side features the Strock Stone House which served as a stop on the Underground Railroad.

In between the Austin Log Cabin and the Strock Stone House is the silhouette of a soldier, representing the many military veterans from Austintown.

Finally, a falcon flies above the Austin Log Cabin, an ode to the Austintown Local Schools mascot.
