A Youngstown area nonprofit based around restoring homes and building communities has received a $10,000 award from Dominion Energy, according to a release.

The grant funding was awarded to the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation by Dominion during their 28th annual Dominion Energy Community Impact Awards Ceremony in Cleveland on Thursday.

The prize, according to Dominion, was awarded to YNDC for their recent work restoring the Glenwood Plaza, which had been damaged by a fire. The plaza now houses three minority-owned businesses and five neighborhood service programs.

10 Other Ohio nonprofits received awards at the ceremony, including two in Akron, two in Canton, five in Cleveland, and one in Lima.

All of those grants were also for $10,000.

According to the YNDC website, since its founding, they have rehabilitated 179 vacant housing units, 11 commercial properties, and aided in over two thousand home repairs. They also say they've improved 569 vacant lots and assisted 475 area residents in becoming homeowners.
