For just the 5th time in Mega Millions history, the jackpot for one of the country's biggest games has topped a billion dollars.

If there's a lucky winner on the next drawing Tuesday, August 1st, they'll take home $1,050,000,000, tied for the 4th largest jackpot ever in the Mega Millions.

The payment can be taken as one lump-sum cash payment of $527.9 million before taxes, or as one lump sum payment followed by a payment every year for the next 29 years, increasing by 5% annually.

While the jackpot went unclaimed, over three million others took home smaller prizes from the drawing. One lucky winner in Pennsylvania took home a five million dollar prize, thanks to the night's 5x Megaplier ball - the first time the 5x ball has been drawn with a jackpot this high. That Megaplier ball applies to all tickets with winning numbers that fall short of the Jackpot, so long as the ticket buyer opts in to the Megaplier at checkout for an extra dollar.

Four other tickets brought in one million dollars last night, including another winner in Pennsylvania. The three other lucky winners bought their tickets in Arizona, California, and New York.

A further 92 tickets matched 4 white balls and the Mega Ball, netting each winner the third tier prize. Fourteen of those tickets brought in $50,000 thanks to the Megaplier, while the rest took home $10,000 each.

Since the last jackpot winner was drawn on April 18th, over 26.4 million people have purchased tickets that won to some degree, taking home 46 prizes of a million dollars or more.
