Sentencing Tuesday for Smith Township man in child pornography case

YOUNGSTOWN - A Mahoning County man could face a 20-year prison term and thousands of dollars in restitution and fines when he is sentenced Tuesday for child pornography.
Twenty-nine-year-old Matthew Bartchy pleaded guilty in March to one count of Receipt and Distribution of Visual Depictions of Minors Engaged in Sexually Explicit Conduct and one count of Possession of Child Pornography.
The charges stem from an investigation that revealed over 70 child pornography files uploaded to electronic service providers between December 2021 and January 2022.
Responding to 11 tips that Bartchy was trading and selling images and videos of children engaged in sex acts, undercover agents say Bartchy sometimes posed as a 14-year-old girl online to solicit new pictures and videos.
On February 17, 2022, agents from the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force searched Bartchy's Smith Township home, confiscating his laptop and cell phones that contained hundreds of pornographic files.
Investigators say Bartchy confessed to sending and receiving child pornography that he intended to sell.
