A Smith Township man will be spending the next 17-and-a-half years in prison on child pornography charges.

According to court records, 29-year-old Matthew Bartchy was sentenced to 210 months in prison on charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor and receipt and depiction of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct.

Following this sentence, he will spend five years on supervised release.

The charges stem from an investigation that revealed over 70 filed containing child pornography uploaded to electronic service providers between December of 2021 and January of 2022.

A detective in Montana posed as a 13-year-old girl online as Bartchy posed as a 14-year-old girl offering to trade child pornography.

In March of 2022, Bartchy's home was raided with officers seizing his laptop and cell phone. According to an affidavit, Bartchy admitted to sending and receiving child pornography with the intent to sell the files.
