Ohio - The state has granted over $700,000 for transportation projects in Mahoning and Columbiana County.

Governor Mike DeWine announced the investment of $3.5 million into 10 projects from Transportation Improvement Districts with one in each of the 10 counties.

The funds will cover project development and construction in 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Mahoning County received $261,386 for the Mahoning Avenue Industrial Corridor Upgrade project, which will upgrade Mahoning Avenue and Rosemont Road. The upgrade includes a bridge replacement and new traffic signal.

This corridor is one of the heaviest traveled in Jackson Township. Companies in that area include Amazon, FedEx, Extrude Aluminum, and Universal Stainless, which have large amounts of truck traffic.

In Columbiana County, the area received $500,00 for the County Road 430 Reconstruction project. The project will upgrade the County Road 430 corridor with widening, curb and gutter improvements, and correcting horizontal and vertical alignments.

This is a major East-West route in St. Clair Township that connects the area to the Shell Cracker Plant in Pennsylvania. County Road 430 is classified as a major collector and has an average daily traffic count of 5,328 vehicles.

The Ohio Department of Transportation awards the funding to applications that support job creation and retention, economic development, intergovernmental cooperation, and private capital investment across Ohio.

"These investments will go a long way toward ensuring that our state can attract new companies to invest in Ohio and allow existing companies to continue providing quality jobs to Ohioans," said ODOT Director Jack Marchbanks.
