Columbiana man sentenced for ignoring evacuation zone during East Palestine tanker fire

LISBON, Ohio - A Columbiana man has been sentenced for driving two children past police barricades during the fiery derailment and chemical spill in East Palestine.
Frederick Hennan, 43, appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to misconduct during an emergency and two counts of child endangering.
Judge Timothy McNichol sentenced Hennan to 180 days in jail, two years intensive probation, and fined him $600.
Village Police said that two evenings after the February 3rd Norfolk Southern derailment, Hennan drove a woman and two children in his truck past barricades that had been set up to protect the public from hazardous chemicals still burning in the rail cars.
An officer said he saw Hennan walking with his two children along the railroad tracks toward the fire.
According to an affidavit, Hennan told police he did it because he had seen other people doing it.
Also arrested that weekend was Chad Fowler, 38, of Salem.
Police alleged that Fowler parked his vehicle a few hundred yards from the train crash site inside the restricted area where an evacuation order and curfew was in effect.
Fowler was also charged with misconduct at an emergency. His next court hearing is scheduled for next week.
