YOUNGSTOWN - Torn up streets and closed road signs in downtown Youngstown have become a common sight, as construction crews work to revitalize the area.

Charles Shasho deputy director of public works, said he expects the roads to be open by the end of construction season, which normally falls sometime in the fall.

"We will have more visibly enhanced crosswalks, improved signage, lighting. As well as some geometry improvements," Shasho said.

Despite these planned road improvements, local businesses near West Federal Street are seeing a decrease in revenue.

"Some of the businesses have seen losses upwards of 60% of their revenue," Jeff Kurz, owner of Imbibe Martini Bar said.

Kurz told 21 News the construction project was sorely needed, but it is an inconvenience for customers.

He said if the construction is not completed by the day before Thanksgiving --one of the businesses highest grossing nights-- it could hit downtown businesses hard financially.

Other downtown restaurant personnel believe the lack of parking is slowing business down.

Kurz says he hopes the city will help market the businesses and provide some financial relief after all the construction is done
