Thursday vigil planned where picketing Youngstown teacher was struck

YOUNGSTOWN - Striking Youngstown City School teachers plan to walk more than just their picket lines on Thursday.
The Youngstown Education Association, which represents the teachers, announced that a vigil is planned for Volney Rogers Elementary School at 3 p.m. in a show of support for a union member who the YEA says was struck by a car on the picket line there on Wednesday.
Police told 21 News that the teacher’s injuries are not life-threatening and the person who struck the teacher is believed to be an administrator of the district.
School officials say they have closed all school buildings during the strike except for locations where students can pick up meals and laptops for remote learning using substitute teachers.
Students and families have until 7 p.m. Thursday to pick up a Chromebook at the student’s assigned school for remote learning.
