Less than three months before the November general election, Ohio Republicans are split on a bill that would legalize recreational adult use of marijuana, seven years after medicinal marijuana became legal in the Buckeye state.

"We want to put the black market out of business and ensure that consumers have an alternative so they know the products they are buying are safe.", said Tom Haren, spokesperson for the Coalition to Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol.

According to a USA Today/Suffolk University Poll, 59 percent of likely voters say they support the issue-- 35 percent oppose.  However, come election day, even an overwhelming majority of yes votes doesn't translate to 'out of the woods yet'.

"Our proposal is a really good policy.  It's tried and true...23 states have already made the decision to regulate the sale of marijuana.  We've had operational adult use markets for a decade-plus now.",  Haren elaborated.

As the GOP is split on the controversial issue...Senator Michael Rulli, who is pro medicinal marijuana tells 21 News that he he's not in favor of recreational use just yet.

"I do wish and urge Ohioans to wait.  I think Ohio needs to wait 3-4 years if not five years for adult use so the medical system could be shored up.". Rulli explained.

Rulli says it would be hard to repeal a Yes vote and that he wouldn't attempt to do so if passed.
